The arrival of a parliamentary delegation from Romania March 25 is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Led by Cǎtǎlin-Daniel Fenechiu, chair of the Romania-Taiwan Parliamentary Friendship Group, the delegation comprises members from the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies.

During their six-day stay, they will visit the Legislative Yuan, Ministries of Economic Affairs, Finance, Foreign Affairs and Justice, as well as the Cabinet-level National Development Council and National Science and Technology Council, the MOFA said.

The group will also tour the Taipei City-based Taiwan External Trade Development Council; the Chinese International Economic Cooperation Association (CIECA), Taiwan; the Industrial Technology Research Institute headquartered in Hsinchu County; and its neighboring Hsinchu Science Park to strengthen industrial collaboration, the ministry added.

The delegation’s leader, Fenechiu, who is co-chair of the Formosa Club and a staunch backer of Taiwan, has signed letters sent to World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus supporting Taiwan’s bid to join the World Health Assembly every year. The ministry added that following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, he has worked closely with Taiwan to provide aid in Ukraine.

Taiwan and Romania have complementary strengths in trade and technology, the MOFA said. The two partners value freedom and democracy and are both committed to countering authoritarian expansion, the ministry added. (YCH-E)
