A Ministry of Economic Affairs-organized delegation concluded a seven-day tour to the U.S. Sept. 4, strengthening Taiwan-U.S. economic and industrial collaboration with the inking of six memorandums of understanding, according to the MOEA’s Industrial Development Bureau.
The delegation, led by IDB Deputy Director-General Yu Cheng-wei, visited the offices and facilities of several major players in emerging sectors such as the Internet of Things, renewable energy and smart machinery. The tour also included visits to Boise State University in Idaho and meetings with representatives from the Idaho and Washington state governments.
Yu said the six accords are expected to strengthen industrial links between the two countries and create more business opportunities for both sides.
According to the IDB, two agreements were signed between the MOEA’s Taiwan-USA Industrial Cooperation Promotion Office and a Washington state-based trade group as well as an alliance of energy and ICT firms, respectively. Another pact was inked between Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute and Rockwell Automation Inc. in Cleveland, Ohio.
The bureau said the three pacts will foster business opportunities in the green energy, IoT and smart machinery sectors.
Taiwan has been proactively facilitating the development of innovative industries through the five-plus-two initiative, which covers the biotech and pharmaceuticals, green energy, national defense, smart machinery and Internet of Things sectors, as well as the circular economy and a new paradigm for agricultural development, Yu said. The signing of such accords will help introduce investment and resources to organizations in both countries, he added.
The additional agreements were also concluded between BSU and three Taiwan organizations, namely ITRI, New Taipei City-based Nexcom International Co. and Providence University in central Taiwan’s Taichung City, respectively. Under the agreements, the Taiwan entities will exchange information with BSU as well as collaborate in talent cultivation. (CPY-E)
