The Ministries of Culture and Education announced their respective stimulus programs June 11 to help Taiwan’s cultural, entertainment and sports sectors get back on track post COVID-19.

According to the MOC, 2 million sets of e-vouchers, each containing six NT$100 (US$3.3) coupons, will be available to Taiwan citizens and their foreign spouses with local residency.

Beginning July 22 12:00 p.m., those who want to receive the vouchers must download the app, register their personal information and complete the verification procedure. The MOC will launch an app for the project at a later date.

The coupons can be used at more than 10,000 participating sites countrywide including bookstores, cinemas, museums, performance venues and record stores through Dec. 31.

Under the Ministry of Education’s project, Taiwan citizens born on or after July 1, 2001 can enjoy free admission to many public facilities under the MOE’s purview between July 1 and Aug. 31.

These include the National Museum of Natural Science in Taipei City; National Museum of Marine Science and Technology in Keelung City, northern Taiwan; and National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium in the southern county of Pingtung.

Other MOE plans in the pipeline include a one-time NT$500 discount for visits to sporting events, the inaugural Taiwan Science Fair, 2020 Taiwan Sport Industry Expo and various national athletic games.

The MOC expects its initiative to generate more than NT$5 billion in industry output and, coupled with the NT$3,000 stimulus voucher program announced earlier in the month by the Cabinet, inject around NT$30 billion into related sectors. The MOE said its projects will bring about 5 million visits to participating facilities and create NT$5 billion in economic benefits. (SFC-E)
