A virtual meeting was staged June 10 between Taiwan’s Minister without Portfolio John C. C. Deng and U.S. Trade Rep. Katherine Tai, underscoring the commitment of both sides to strengthening robust economic relations, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Deng said the government is fully committed to promoting bilateral trade and globalization measures. As a reliable and trustworthy partner occupying an important position in the international supply chain, Taiwan looks forward to ongoing cooperation with the U.S. and other economies, he added.
Tai, who brought Deng up to speed on trade priorities under the administration of President Joe Biden, said the U.S. is interested in continuing to work with Taiwan on issues of common concern in multilateral organizations.
Deng and Tai also agreed to convene the 11th Taiwan-U.S. Trade and Investment Framework Agreement Council meeting. The event will be held under the auspices of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in the U.S. and American Institute in Taiwan in the coming weeks.
In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the MOFA said “Solid virtual talks between Minister without Portfolio Deng & @USTradeRep @AmbassadorTai. We welcome continued #US interest in working with #Taiwan on issues of mutual concern in multilateral organizations & the convening of the 11th TIFA Council meeting in the near future.” (SFC-E)
