Taiwan deepens communications tech cooperation with Japan

President Tsai Ing-wen looked forward to further strengthening Taiwan’s collaboration with Japan in the field of information and communications technology Nov. 24 in Taipei City.
 
Tsai made the remarks while receiving Jun Sawada, president and chief executive officer of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone. She said that over the past few years, Taiwan has been dedicated to the goal of becoming a digital country as evidenced by the establishment of the Ministry of Digital Affairs in 2022 and the efforts to develop artificial intelligence, 5G and 6G technologies.
 
The president expressed gratitude to NTT for inviting representatives from research institutes and telecom providers to participate in the Innovative Optical and Wireless Network Global Forum, enabling Taiwan to discuss the blueprint of next generation optical communication techniques with other countries. Tsai added that Chunghwa Telecom signed a memorandum of understanding with NTT in October to expedite the implementation of IOWN techniques in Taiwan and offer more diverse information and communication services to the citizens.
 
The president concluded with encouragement for industries facing post-pandemic challenges to get involved in international communications organizations. She closed her remarks by saying that NTT’s pioneering position in the market makes it an ideal partner for Taiwan to cooperate with. (POC-E)
