The Ministry of Economic Affairs has taken a delegation of 14 startups to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 9-12, demonstrating the government’s commitment to promoting international business opportunities for local enterprises.

Three of the fledgling companies, including eTreego, KopherBit Co. and Cytena Bioprocess Solutions Co. made deals with major U.S. and European corporations while five other firms signed trial orders or memorandums of understanding with major U.S. businesses, the ministry said.

Among these emerging enterprises, eTreego is a leading company in the field of charging stations for electric vehicles. Four U.S. clients have already adopted its products and 9,000 further stations are set to be installed in California, Florida and Texas.

KopherBit Co. is also involved in electric vehicles, having created Taiwan's first complete vehicle control system and currently boasting over 70 percent market share of Taiwan's electric buses. Cytena Bioprocess Solutions Co. has released a microbioreactor that provides cells with an optimum living environment to considerably reduce culture time.

In the run-up to CES, the MOEA held a demo day Jan. 5 in California’s Silicon Valley that brought together academics, tech experts, investors, lawyers and scientists to enhance the visibility of Taiwan startups’ products and link them with overseas resources. (POC-E)
