The 2024 Seminar on Exploring Investment Opportunities in the Kingdom of Eswatini was held March 20 in Taipei City, underscoring Taiwan’s commitment to deepening business links with its African ally, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Co-organized by the MOFA and Taiwan External Trade Development Council, the event attracted 105 businesses from sectors spanning biotechnology, green energy, food processing, information and communications technologies, medical equipment and textiles.
Speaking at the seminar, Vice Foreign Minister Remus Li-kuo Chen praised Eswatini’s robust foundation in agriculture, food and beverage processing, mining, and textiles. Despite being landlocked, the country boasts a comprehensive trade network through the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement, Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa and Southern African Customs Union, among others, he added.
In response, Eswatini Prime Minister Russell Dlamini emphasized the country’s stable financial system and invited Taiwan companies to facilitate the diversification of its economy via investment. Eswatini can act as a springboard into the African market of 1.2 billion people, he said, citing the success of Taiwan textiles in the kingdom.
The MOFA also briefed attendees on government subsidies designed to encourage Taiwan businesses to invest in the country’s diplomatic allies, the ministry said. (POC-E)
