An international conference promoting entrepreneurship and innovation wrapped up Oct. 8 in Taipei City, underscoring the effectiveness of public-private sector efforts transforming Taiwan into a hub for business startups.
The Movement, Open, Startup and Accelerate event is the first of its kind organized by Taiwan-based startup communities. During its two-day run at 1914 Huashan Creative Park, the conference featured more than 40 accelerator experts, business veterans and investors from 10 countries and territories.
In addition to exchanging views on the latest global trends and sharing experiences, participants took part in business matchmaking sessions, seminars and workshops. A total of 45 startups also showcased their innovative business models at the venue.
During the opening ceremony, Premier Mao Chi-kuo said the event is the result of a government initiative linking public-private sector resources with Silicon Valley and connecting local firms with their counterparts worldwide.
“Recent efforts by governments in this regard encompass regulatory amendments making possible additional funding options for new businesses and stepped-up overseas talent recruitment.
“Other measures include setting up Taiwan Rapid Innovation Prototyping League for Entrepreneurs, an initiative aimed at providing design and marketing services to fast-track implementation of creative ideas from local firms.”
According to Mao, Taiwan’s key advantages in fostering entrepreneurship include a deep pool of software and hardware engineers, complete supply chains for critical industries and highly adaptive manufacturing capabilities.
“Our close proximity to mainland China and Southeast Asian markets, convenient living environment and superior infrastructure also make the country an ideal base for innovative startups,” he added.
Going forward, the premier said he expects the conference to become a leading platform for business exchanges and enhancing Taiwan’s visibility on the global stage. (SFC-JSM)
