Northern Taiwan's Taoyuan City-headquartered National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology inked a memorandum of understanding on radar technology cooperation with Manchester-based Easat Radar Systems Ltd. July 18 in the U.K.
The pact allows NCSIST—the primary R&D arm for the Ministry of National Defense—and Easat to share technology and know-how on the development of civilian air traffic control radars. It also enables them to explore joint business opportunities and enhance Taiwan’s presence in the radar technology industry supply chain.
NCSIST President Gao Chung-hsing and Easat Managing Director James Long signed the agreement at a ceremony attended by David Y. L. Lin, head of the Taipei Representative Office in the U.K., on the sidelines of Farnborough International Airshow. Following the event, Gao was scheduled to visit Easat’s headquarters and its manufacturing plants in Helsinki, Finland, to better understand the company’s technical capabilities.
The agreement is part of larger efforts by NCSIST to integrate military radar technology into civilian applications, including air traffic control and detection and surveillance for security operations. Easat, which designs and manufactures radar antennas, is seen as central to this endeavor.
NCSIST is advancing technology in line with the government’s five-plus-two industrial innovation program. The initiative aims to foster the development of the biotech and pharmaceuticals, green energy, national defense, smart machinery and Internet of Things sectors, as well as the circular economy and a new paradigm for agricultural development.
