As part of the ROC centennial celebration, the Government Information Office released Dec. 28 four new national anthem videos showing contemporary Taiwan in a variety of settings.
“These new videos aim to showcase the progress that Taiwan has made over the past 60 years in science and technology, economic development, and art and culture,” Premier Wu Den-yih said.
The four main themes of the videos are national infrastructure, childhood, tourism and a combination of the above, with each video featuring the national anthem sung in a different style.
“The high-definition videos, replacing the previous version shot nearly a decade ago, can be used for promoting Taiwan on the international stage,” said GIO Minister Johnny Chi-chen Chiang, adding that they will be screened at celebration events throughout the coming year.
According to composer Lee Che-yi, the musical director of the tourism clip, he added melodies and chants performed by aboriginal musicians to give the national anthem a slightly different flavor and to honor the nation’s oldest native inhabitants.
“The tunes have combined characteristics from many different tribes,” Lee said. “So even though this music is clearly aboriginal, it is impossible to say exactly which tribe it is from.”
The tourism video features several popular tourist destinations, including Jade Mountain and the Keelung night market, while the infrastructure video shows revamped airports, highways and high-tech labs.
The four videos can be downloaded from the GIO website and viewed on YouTube, the GIO said. (HZW)
