Taipei City’s riverside park bike path system will be completed when the last mile of the route, the section next to the Jingmei River, is formally opened March 26.
The system will cover 111 kilometers along the Danshui, Keelung, Xindian and Jingmei rivers, providing a glimpse into the culture of those areas as well as the different ecosystems around Taipei.
The final section is on the right bank of the Jingmei River in front of Shih Hsin University. The city’s Hydraulic Engineering Office will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony officiated by Mayor Hau Long-bin at 10 a.m. March 26 at the riverside park next to the Beixin Bridge.
Cyclists are invited to bike that morning from one of four points—the Guangpu Pier, the right bank of the Nanhu Riverside Park, the Shuangxi Riverside Park under the Fuxing Bridge or the Nanhe Riverside Park opposite the Taipei Zoo—toward Shih Hsin University, where they will meet up and celebrate the successful linking of the bike paths that span all of the city’s riverside parks.
The Hydraulic Engineering Office began expanding and widening the bike paths in 2008, as well as improving surfaces, lighting and signage.
