Marshall Islands President David Kabua commenced a five-day state visit to Taiwan March 21 aimed at deepening friendship and expanding exchanges between the diplomatic allies, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Met upon arrival by MOFA Minister Jaushieh Joseph Wu at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport, Kabua is accompanied by first lady Ginger Kabua and a delegation including Foreign and Trade Minister Casten Nemra, Sen. Joe Bejang and their respective spouses.

According to the MOFA, Kabua will be welcomed by President Tsai Ing-wen and a military honor guard before being awarded the Order of Brilliant Jade with Grand Cordon for advancing bilateral relations. The presidents will take part in a meeting to discuss future cooperation and other issues of mutual concern and attend a sate banquet.

Other highlights of Kabua and the delegation’s visit include the renewal of the Taiwan-Marshall Islands Agreement of Agricultural Technical Cooperation and a dinner banquet hosted by Wu.

Since taking office in January 2020, the ministry said, Kabua has consistently voiced staunch support for Taiwan’s international participation during global events. The country’s firm friend has also worked tirelessly in promoting mutually beneficial collaboration benefiting the people over many years, the MOFA added.

Taiwan and the Marshall Islands share 24 years of diplomatic relations defined by the shared values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, the ministry said. This foundation enabled the countries to cultivate rich cultural connections and cooperation opportunities, especially in the areas of agriculture, clean energy, education, fisheries, infrastructure, public health and women’s empowerment, the MOFA added.

In a tweet on its official Twitter account, the ministry said “Minister Wu extended the warmest of #Taiwan welcomes to President David Kabua, first lady Ginger Kabua, @Min_CastenNemra, Sen. Joe Bejang & other members of the #MarshallIslands delegation. We wish our esteemed friends an enjoyable & productive 5-day state visit.” (SFC-E)
