A course on innovative technologies in vegetable farming is underway through June 7 in Taipei City, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.
Offered by the MOA in cooperation with the Asian Productivity Organization, the seminar and others like it have been conducted online in recent years due to COVID-19. This year’s course is the first to take place in person in Taiwan since the pandemic, the ministry said.
The ministry said that 14 APO member nations have sent a total of 25 representatives hailing from Bangladesh, Cambodia, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Vietnam and the Philippines.
Learning focuses on smart technologies for vegetable farming, as well as paths to future development, the MOA explained. Participants will also visit MOA’s Taoyuan District Agricultural Research and Extension Station, among other locations to gain deeper insight into Taiwan’s application of agricultural technology.
Founded in 1961 in Tokyo, APO provides technical and managerial services across agriculture, industries, and service sectors to enhance productivity, economic prosperity and living standards in member countries. Taiwan is one of the founding members, the MOA added.
Rapid urbanization and industrialization have taken a toll on arable land and the resources necessary to farm it. According to the ministry, advanced smart technologies can be adopted to optimize the farming process, diminish loss during production and enhance yield.
During the 5-day event, attendees will share their experience and experts from Indonesia, Japan and Taiwan will introduce innovative techniques. The MOA said that the multinational exchange will facilitate the internationalization of domestic agriculture. (POC-E)
