MOE hosts digital learning symposium

The Ministry of Education held the 2024 International Digital Learning Forum Aug. 6-7, highlighting the government’s commitment to advancing education in the era of artificial intelligence.
 
According to the MOE, representatives from Japan, Korea and Singapore, among others, were invited to talk about digital learning at the elementary and junior high school levels. The application of generative AI in various fields was also discussed, alongside the trends and practices of bilingual digital learning.
 
Speaking at the event, MOE Deputy Minister Yeh Ping-cheng announced that the ministry is planning a university alliance to cultivate AI talent and build course materials that incorporate AI in addition to holding contests to promote AI education at elementary and junior high schools and strengthening public and private efforts to develop robust digital content.
 
A representative from Japan shared a plan related to improving the equipment and environment at schools as a way to bolster students’ learning and performance, while a Korean official introduced AI textbooks and discussed the promotion of adaptive learning and demonstration schools, teacher’s professional development and reinforcement of teaching support systems. A professor from Singapore explained a personalized digital learning program designed to enable learners to respond to a rapidly changing era.
 
The MOE pointed out that Taiwan outshines many countries in its comprehensive strategies advancing digital learning, demonstrating the nation’s vision and innovation. A new set of guidelines on digital teaching for elementary and junior high schools will also be launched soon, the MOE added. (POC-E)
