A total 128 university students from across Taiwan were chosen from 1,284 applicants. They are well-rounded, possessing talents and skills in various areas such as cross-cultural communication and international perspectives.
“We congratulate the ambassadors on their selection and courage to step out of their comfort zones to seek personal growth,” MOFA Vice Minister Vanessa Yea-ping Shih said. “They are expected to establish highly organized and professional teams focused on enhancing the nation’s global profile.”
According to the MOFA, the ambassadors will receive specialized communication, cultural and Taiwan promotion training for 45 days from July. Upon completion, they are to be divided into eight teams and will travel between September and October to four or five nations that have diplomatic relations or friendly exchanges with Taiwan in the six populated continents.
The 21-day trips will see participants attend forums, present cultural performances and visit government agencies and nongovernmental organizations in the host nations. The teams comprise a maximum of 20 members, up from six in 2013.
“This program has been very well-received by Taiwan tertiary students and the people of the host nations over the past five years,” Shih said. “We expect this to continue going forward.” (DF-JSM)
