KMT showdown
October 08, 2015
Eric Chu, chairman of the ruling Kuomintang and mayor of New Taipei City, presides over a meeting of the party’s Central Standing Committee Oct. 7 in Taipei City. The committee resolved to call an extraordinary KMT congress to discuss whether to replace Hung Hsiu-chu, vice president of the Legislative Yuan, as the party’s candidate in the 2016 ROC presidential election. Hung responded by expressing “deep regret” over the decision, claiming it would “plunge the KMT headlong into a crisis.” (CNA)
