The unanimous passage of a resolution May 10 by the Czech Senate supporting Taiwan’s global participation is sincerely welcomed by the government and people of Taiwan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

This is the third bill passed by the senate since 2021 calling for Taiwan’s inclusion in the activities, meetings and mechanisms of U.N.-affiliated bodies such as the World Health Organization, U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change, the International Civil Aviation Organization and Interpol, the ministry said. As in previous years, the timing aligns with the annual meeting of the World Health Assembly, the WHO's decision-making body.

Citing Taiwan’s contribution to the joint efforts to help Ukraine and other key issues, the bill asserted that Taiwan’s global participation will help mitigate global warming; promote public health and civil aviation safety; and ensure regional stability, global trade and supply chain security.

According to the resolution, Czech President Petr Pavel said Taiwan and his country share the same values of freedom, democracy and respect for human rights, adding that his administration will continue to deepen its partnership with Taiwan.

The bill further attests to Czechia’s regard for Taiwan, with mentions of its key partner status in the EU member state’s policy agenda and Indo-Pacific strategy report, along with a joint statement that followed the U.S.-Czech Republic Strategic Dialogue last year.

Going forward, the two sides are expected to strengthen cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, culture, education, technology and tourism, the resolution added.

As a force for good in the global community, Taiwan is committed to working with its like-minded partners to promote peace, security and sustainable development for the well-being of people around the world, the ministry said. (SFC-E)
