President Tsai Ing-wen offered her thanks to members of the ROC (Taiwan) Air Force for their dedication in protecting the country Oct. 13, spotlighting the government’s commitment to the brave men and women in uniform charged with safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.

Citing her Oct. 10 National Day address, Tsai said she has promised to visit members of Taiwan’s armed forces wherever they are and as often as possible to express her appreciation for their tireless service.

Tsai made the remarks during a visit to an air force surveillance warning center and air defense wing Oct. 13 in northern Taiwan’s Hsinchu County.

According to Tsai, the facility plays a central role in defending Taiwan by providing intelligence used to scramble responses. Thanks to the diligent work of its personnel, the military has a full grasp on all activity in and around the nation’s air space, including any aircraft and missile launches by neighboring countries, she said.

As commander in chief, Tsai said she is fully confident in the Air Force’s ability to protect Taiwan from enemy threats. She also thanked the facility staffers on behalf of the government and people, adding the public will not forget the importance of their work. (SFC-E)
