A delegation of representatives from 96 Taiwan-based high-tech startups took part in the Consumer Electronics Show Jan. 5-8 in Las Vegas, reflecting the country’s key role in the global information and communications technology sector.

Jointly organized by the National Science and Technology Council, National Development Council and the Ministries of Economic and Digital Affairs, the Taiwan Tech Arena Pavilion showcased the group’s latest offerings.

According to the NSTC, the TTA Pavilion showcased developments in key emerging sectors in Taiwan including artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, sports technology, green energy, smart living and smart medicine.

During the event’s four-day run, more than 32,000 people visited the TTA Pavilion, while firms from 29 countries made 5,000-plus inquiries to the Taiwan startups, the NSTC said, adding that many participating local companies secured business as a result.

According to the NSTC, delegations from Canada, Japan, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and the U.S. also visited the TTA Pavilion and took part in business-matching sessions.

Other highlight of the event were the meetings between NSTC Vice Minister Chen Tzong-chyuan and delegations from Canada and France, in which the sides exchanged views on high-tech policymaking and explored opportunities to expand related exchanges.

The NSTC also invited startups from Canada, France and Switzerland to participate in the government-sponsored Tech Innovation Excellence Award to be presented during the Taiwan Innotech Expo set for October this year.

Launched in 1967, CES is among the world’s biggest technology expos alongside Computex Taipei and CeBit in Germany. This year’s edition featured more than 3,200 companies with attendees from over 173 countries and territories, according to organizers. (SFC-E)
